Each year, millions of empty toner and inkjet cartridges are thrown into the trash, ending up in our planet’s landfills or incinerators. eCycle Group makes recycling these empty cartridges easy, profitable, educational and environmentally beneficial.
We accept most cartridge models, and ensure their distribution to quality remanufacturers who refurbish and refill them for resale. This process conserves raw materials and the energy needed to produce a new product. It helps reduce solid waste, and gives the end user consumer an incentive to recycle, by creating a product of comparable quality at a lower price than the original manufacturers.
- This year, only 20% of these petroleum-based, plastic cartridges will be recycled. The remaining 80% will ultimately end up in landfill.
- The average used toner cartridge weighs about 3 lbs. It is composed of 40% plastic, 40% percent metal and 20% other materials. The plastic is made of engineering-grade polymers which take over 1,000 years to decompose. 97% of these combined components can be recycled or reused.
- Three quarts of oil are used in the production of every toner cartridge and 2 ounces of oil are used for the production every inkjet cartridge.
- The recovery and reuse of empty printer cartridges diverts millions of cubic feet of material from waste disposal, saving us the millions of tax dollars needed to pay for
additional landfill management.
- One school can use 350 printer cartridges per year.
- Each student will use a minimum of 6 to 10 inkjet cartridges per year.
- A medium-sized business can use 900 to 1,600 cartridges per year.
